The Murray Half Marathon is proud to announce a partnership with Southwest Elementary and Furches Farms to get kids involved in the Murray Half Marathon 5K.

“With this partnership we are hoping to encourage younger generations to engage in healthier lifestyles,” said Keith Travis, Vice President of Development at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

Southwest Elementary in Calloway County recently received the Blue Ribbon award. This award is presented by the US Department of Education naming them a National Blue Ribbon School for 2016. In recognition of this award this year’s 5K race will be named the Southwest Elementary Blue Ribbon 5K.

Josh Mckeel, Southwest Elementary Principal, has been a supporter of the half marathon for some time. Last year he got his students involved by challenging them to wear their wings in support of hospice and the Murray Half Marathon.

“Our participation in this year’s race will give kids the opportunity to be a part of something larger than themselves to show support for a great cause,” said Josh McKeel, Principal at Southwest Elementary.

The 2017 Murray Half Marathon is scheduled for April 22, 2017. This year marks the seventh annual Murray Half Marathon, which is organized by the Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare at Murray-Calloway County Hospital, and raises funds to support the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House. The facility offers end-of-life care in a home-like setting to area residents in partnership with MCCH’s existing Hospice Department.
