EIGHTH ANNUAL MURRAY HALF MARATHON SET FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2018

Posted 02/09/18

The Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare’s annual Murray Half Marathon will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018 and will mark the eighth anniversary of the event. The Murray Bank has acquired naming rights for the half marathon, which is the longest running half marathon in western Kentucky.  The Murray Bank is independently owned and operated since opening in 1999, with two locations in Murray and recently opened a branch in Hazel, Ky. Murray Bank has been voted the Favorite Bank in Calloway County for 15 years, and are dedicated to community service, taking an active interest in the community through volunteering, fundraising, community service and membership. This sponsorship is the latest investment in making the community where they work and live.

The Murray Half Marathon offers three races; a 13.1 mile race (U.S. Track and Field certified course), two- person relay race and a 5K run/walk. All proceeds from the race support operations at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House, which opened in November of 2016. The facility offers end-of-life care in a home-like setting to area residents in partnership with MCCH’s existing Hospice unit.

This year’s event will host a “Court Square Salute”, with participation from the 101st Airborne and First Responders.

The race will also feature a Hospice Heroes designation, in which runners will raise funds in support of the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House. Participants in this event will receive a specially designed running shirt, to recognize them as a Hospice Hero.

Other features of the 2018 Murray Half Marathon include cash prizes, new and improved race shirt, limited edition finisher metals, and the Race Expo on Friday, April 13th. New this year, our runners food tent will be sponsored by US Foods, runners and spectators will be able to track their progress during the half marathon using the RaceJoy app, and footage of the race will be projected from a drone to a huge screen, provided by Sportable Scoreboards, in the parking lot of the J. Stuart Poston Center for Health and Wellness.

Runners interested in participating may sign up at www.MurrayHalfMarathon.org and several discount levels are offered based on how early the participant registers. Course information and other important details are also available on the site.
