MURRAY, KY – In the continued quest to provide local patients with the highest level of care, the surgical team at Murray-Calloway County Hospital recently celebrated an exciting milestone. A team of surgeons including, Dr. Brian Swain, Dr. Jingkun Wang, and Dr. Matt Price recently celebrated their 500th robotic surgery.

The state-of-the-art da Vinci robots allow surgeons to perform complex minimally invasive procedures with more precision and better outcomes, often leading to less pain for the patient post-surgery and quicker recovery times.

To use the da Vinci robots, surgeons sit at a nearby console to view 3-D images of the surgical site. Using the controls, the surgeon moves the robotic instruments with accuracy and stability through small surgical incisions. The system allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures in the areas of urology, gynecology, thoracic and general surgery.

Dr. Swain has completed over 325 procedures and often uses the robot to perform surgeries for hernias, colectomies, appendectomies, cholecystectomies (gall bladders) and bariatrics.

Dr. Price, OB/GYN utilizes the robot for hysterectomies while Dr. Wang also uses the technology to perform hernias and colectomies.
