MURRAY, KY – Employees in Murray Calloway County Hospital’s Emergency Department, CCU, and Medical Surgical Unit recently participated in a simulation training with the SPARC (Simulation for Pediatric Assessment, Resuscitation and Communication program) team from Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.  The team, consisting of Dr. Karen Orman, NICU physician and medical director of the pediatric/neonatal transport team and Donna Callahan, critical care transport nurse and clinical educator, educated staff on crisis teamwork skills, procedural skills, and pediatric physiology.

The team from Norton’s presented high risk and/or high acuity scenarios relating specifically to children with the goal to rehearse effective teamwork principles and communication during medical events and procedures. Another goal of the simulation training was to optimize the health care system by identifying and correcting safety threats, improving the efficiency and quality of care, and generating new knowledge and scholarship. Those included in the simulations were Respiratory, Nursing and Medical staff.
